On Wednesday, August 10, the Summer Science Event 2022 was held for the first time in three years. The venue was KING SKYFRONT (Tonomachi, Kawasaki City), the science and technology hub where Tonomachi Town Campus is located. This hands-on event was mainly intended for elementary school students to have fun while becoming more familiar with science. Corporations and research institutions associated with KING SKYFRONT put on programming that incorporates their unique specialties through science experiments, crafts, and construction classes.
KING SKYFRONT is located near Haneda Airport. The facility hosts multiple institutions and companies which have established bases within the facility, conducting cutting-edge research on a daily basis. Keio University established Tonomachi Town Campus on the KING SKYFRONT grounds in 2016 as a research and educational institution for life sciences.
Tonomachi Town Campus's contribution to the event was a project titled "Programming with Fishing and Soccer!" It allowed students to explore the possibilities of game design and programming technology via a variety of activities that let them move around. This year's event took place at a limited scale, requiring advance registration for attendees, conducting tours in small-groups, and following general measures meant to prevent infections from spreading. Nonetheless, the children who participated were energetic and able to enjoy the day to the fullest.
