On Friday, August 28, Keio University President Kohei Itoh delivered a presentation at the J-PEAKS Presidents' Meeting, held at Pacifico Yokohama.
Speaking on Keio's university reform initiatives under J-PEAKS, President Itoh introduced how the University is combining its ongoing efforts with J-PEAKS-provided support to further advance its research capabilities, global engagement, and collaboration with other universities. He discussed Keio's long-term vision, based on the 10-year vision set forth under J-PEAKS, as well as its initiatives in being a hub for fostering innovation in local communities, drawing on specific examples from Keio.
President Itoh highlighted Keio's partnerships with other J-PEAKS-selected universities and with overseas universities that have grown through J-PEAKS. He shared Keio's approach to creating new value by sharing its knowledge and resources with universities and communities, both in Japan and abroad.
Following the presentation, the participants engaged in a lively exchange of views on Keio's initiatives to strengthen its research capabilities, such as increasing the number of doctoral students, and its AI-Native University initiative, which aims to create an educational and research environment that utilizes AI.
Through group sessions and an information exchange event held among the 25 J-PEAKS-selected universities, President Itoh, Vice-President for Research Saiki, and Keio's J-PEAKS Liaison Nakaji actively exchanged views with university presidents and senior leaders from across Japan. With an eye toward the formation of a J-PEAKS research university group, they shared perspectives on their respective universities' initiatives and challenges as well as insights into state-of-the-art practices in implementing university reform, strengthening research capabilities, and enhancing international collaboration.
