On July 26, Hiroki Muto (graduate of the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies) secured the bronze medal for the Japan team in the Men's Team Archery event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. This is the first time that Japan has won an Olympic medal in this event.
The Japanese team, which was seeded in the first game from the ranking round on July 23, overcame the United States in the first-round quarterfinals, and forced Korea into an overtime shoot-out in the subsequent semifinals, in which they were ultimately vanquished.
This was followed by fiercely-contested back and forth sets in the third place playoff against the Netherlands, with the shoot-off culminating in a stunning victory for the Japan team.
