The reconstruction of the Hiyoshi Commemorative Hall which began in October 2017 is nearing its scheduled completion of March 2020.
The Hiyoshi Commemorative Hall is mainly used for events such as university ceremonies and as a sports facility. The new building has four floors above ground and two below (the former had three floors above ground and one below) and has a seating capacity for around 10,000 people, a significant increase from the 6,500 of the former building. The size of the arena is also bigger, providing an improved environment for use as an indoor sports facility. The exterior design of the hall is in harmony with the surrounding school buildings, and it will become the new face of Hiyoshi Campus.
Once completed, the first event it will hold will be the commencement ceremony for the 2019 academic year scheduled for March 23, 2020, followed by the entrance ceremony for the 2020 academic year on April 1. It will also be used by the British Olympic and Paralympic teams for their pre-Games preparation camp for Tokyo 2020.
