Keio Global e-newsletter! This edition features: the “Consideration of International Exchange in the Age of Educational Globalization—Global Mobility of Students—” Symposium, “Studying in the U.S. — Dialogue with Ambassador Kennedy,” and a rundown of PEARL, which is the newest English-taught program at Keio.
Experts in the area of international exchange converged on Keio for a series of panel discussions and presentations with the aim of trying to gain a better understanding of some of the more pressing issues related to globalization of higher education in Japan.
The U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Caroline Kennedy, paid a visit to Keio University’s Mita Campus on July 6, 2015, to convey to Keio University students the benefits of studying abroad and to encourage more Japanese students to choose the United States as their study abroad destination.
In September 2016, the Faculty of Economics at Keio University will start the all-English four-year “Programme in Economics for Alliances, Research and Leadership (PEARL).” Click through to find out more about yet another way to gain a global education at Keio.
On Sunday, June 28, President Atsushi Seike and Vice-President Keigo Komamura met with President Tan Chorh Chuan of the National University of Singapore and President Kap-Young Jeong of Yonsei University, who were in Japan for the APRU Presidential Retreat and 19th Annual Presidents Meeting. The meeting was arranged with the objective to discuss and exchange opinions on internationalization strategies of universities among other topics.
On Friday, June 5, the Faculty of Letters held an open interview event with Kazuo Ishiguro, titled “Kazuo Ishiguro Talks,” to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the faculty. The Sokei-sen, the Waseda-Keio rivalry, goes back over 100 years and is much more than just the baseball match. In this edition of the Sokei-sen Report, we relive the exciting and hard-fought lacrosse match versus Waseda, held on May 17.
Following the success of previous events, the Experience Japan Exhibition will be back in London in November 2015, bringing information on the various exciting opportunities for study and work in Japan to a UK audience. The event, which is hosted by Keio and co-hosted by the British Council, will allow participants to meet representatives of Japanese universities and other organizations and to hear from people with experience of study and work in Japan in a number of seminars held throughout the afternoon.

Also known as the Keio Rengo Mita-kai, this year’s event will be held on Hiyoshi Campus on Sunday, October 25. This year’s theme will be “Light up our Future,” in honor of the 100th anniversary of the stained glass in the Old University Library, and a variety of different events are being planned. For a taste of what is in store, take a look at last year’s event.
