Keio University Vice-President Motohiro Tsuchiya attended the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Senior International Leaders' Meeting (SILM), held at Ecuador's Universidad San Francisco de Quito from October 14 to 15, 2025.
Hailing from 11 different countries and regions, more than 30 university leaders in charge of international affairs at the vice-president level participated in the conference where they held discussions under the theme of "Global Range, Local Change." Panel discussions focused on topics such as "Reimagining Global Engagement," "Enhancing Trans-Pacific Cohesion," and "Creating Impact for Tomorrow," providing an opportunity to explore new visions and strategies to further accelerate the internationalization of higher education.
In addition, a special ceremony was held to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the Asia Pacific Women in Leadership (APWiL), one of APRU's flagship programs, which aims to drive the growth and development of the next generation of women leaders in the Asia Pacific region. Since the inception of APWiL, Vice-President Akiyo Okuda has been active as one of its core members, and every year faculty members nominated by Keio participate in the APWiL Mentoring Program.
Keio University echoes APRU's philosophy of promoting gender equality and fostering leadership, and will continue to be involved in working towards the realization of those ideals.
