Following a visit to the University of Helsinki for which Keio President Kohei Itoh serves as a member of its International Advisory Board—President Itoh traveled to Estonia, where on June 4 he met with the Vice Rector for Development at the University of Tartu, the country's oldest university, and together they discussed and shared their views on a variety of issues. While there, President Itoh visited the university's academic and research departments involved in the field of information and communication technology. During his stay in the capital city of Tallinn, he was also invited to the official residence of the Japanese Ambassador to Estonia, where he met and conversed with Tallinn University of Technology's Vice-Rector for Research and Entrepreneurship.
The following day, President Itoh traveled to Riga, the capital of Latvia. Together with the Japanese Ambassador to Latvia, he visited the University of Latvia's new campus, home to the recently established Faculty of Science and Technology (FST). President Itoh toured several laboratories with the FST's dean and learned about their ongoing educational and research activities, exchanging insights about these initiatives and more.
On June 6, he continued on to the main site of the University of Latvia, meeting with its vice-rectors and other university officials. He was introduced to the education and research they conduct, and had many fruitful discussions with his hosts. He also visited a government-affiliated laboratory conducting research on quantum technology, presenting another opportunity to exchange expertise and ideas.
