President Itoh participated in the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting (WEF at Davos) held from January 19 to 24. The theme for this year's Davos meeting, which was its 55th iteration, was "Collaboration for the Intelligent Age."
In the Meeting of the University Leaders Community, President Itoh represented Keio University in a dialogue session to discuss the most pressing challenges facing universities in the intelligent age. In addition, at the Community of Chairpersons Dinner, attended by the heads of various subcommittees organized by WEF throughout the year, President Itoh was one of three guest speakers for the session where they engaged with attendees on three key emerging technologies: artificial intelligence, biosensors, and biotechnology. Discussions covered how these innovations are set to shape the future of science, global businesses, and industries.
In the session titled "Limitless Possibilities: How Universities and Industry Collaborate in the Age of AI" hosted by Arm, a world leader in CPU technology, President Itoh was joined by fellow panelists Farnam Jahanian, president of Carnegie Mellon University, and Eric Xing, president of Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence. The panel explored how universities pioneering AI research are working together with industry partners who are developing the tools and products needed to implement AI innovations, and discussed the importance of fostering further collaboration between academia and industry.
Finally, President Itoh also attended a breakfast session together with Masahiko Inakage, dean of the Graduate School of Media Design (KMD). At the gathering, Dean Inakage introduced Keio STAR (Sustainable and Transformative Actions for Regeneration), a center focused on sustainability, to representatives from various countries.
