For two days from October 29 to 30, 2024, the 20th Korea-Japan Millennium Forum was held at Korea University, Seoul, South Korea. Keio President Kohei Itoh and Vice-President Motohiro Tsuchiya attended this year's forum, along with other Keio representatives.
The Forum was launched in 2002 as an opportunity for the presidents and other members of four of the leading private universities from Japan and Korea—Keio University, Waseda University, Korea University, and Yonsei University—to strengthen their mutual relationships and meet up on a yearly basis. The venue rotates between the schools each time it is held.
The theme for this year's forum was "The Roles of Universities in Improving the Resilience of Local and Global Communities toward a Sustainable Planet." During the presidents' session, the president of each university gave presentations and discussed universities' roles in educating the next generation of leaders, scientists, and citizens about sustainability issues. In the students' session, student representatives from each of the four universities delivered presentations and gave recommendations on how young generations can play a role in improving the resilience of campus communities toward a sustainable planet. The researchers' session featured presentations and discussions on the roles of universities in improving the resilience of global and local communities toward a sustainable planet. During this session, Keio University was represented by Professor Hiromichi Kobayashi from the Faculty of Law and Associate Professor Yoshiaki Miyamoto from the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies who shared their insights.
