Seven Keio researchers were selected on November 19, 2024, for the annual Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researchers (below HCR) list: Professor Takanori Kanai (Department of Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology), Professor Kenya Honda (Department of Microbiology and Immunology), Professor Toshiro Sato (Department of Biochemistry), Project Professor Taishiro Kishimoto (Hills Joint Research Laboratory for Future Preventive Medicine and Wellness), Associate Professor Koji Atarashi (affiliated with the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the time of research; currently a visiting professor at Keio), Project Professor Shinji Fukuda (Graduate School of Media and Governance), and Professor Koji Hase (Faculty of Pharmacy). With the exception of Project Professor Fukuda and Professor Hase, the other five researchers are from the School of Medicine. The HCR list recognizes outstanding researchers who have published multiple papers landing in the top 1% of citations for research in their respective disciplines. The list encompasses 20 Essential Science Indicators (ESI) fields and the cross-field category, for a total of 21 categories. In the 2024 edition, 6,636 researchers were selected from 59 countries or regions worldwide, 76 of whom were from Japan.
Professor Kanai,Project Professor Kishimoto, Project Professor Fukuda, and Professor Hase were chosen for the cross-field category, Professor Honda and Associate Professor Atarashi (at the time of research) were chosen for their work in immunology, and Professor Sato was selected for molecular biology and genetics.
