On Saturday, May 20, the "Keio University Hiyoshi Children's Cafeteria" was held for the second time on Hiyoshi Campus, following the initiative's first launch back in December last year. On the day of the event, local children were invited to the campus and enjoyed interacting with university students, thus deepening the relationship between the local community and the university. This event was primarily planned and run by the student group "Keio Slow Food Club" together with assistance from Hiyoshi Campus faculty and staff members, and with the cooperation of "Green's Marche," a student cafeteria on Hiyoshi Campus.
The theme for this event was "What does it mean to eat? Let's learn about nutritional balance by eating loco moco with Keio students!" Through this, participants enjoyed activities with Keio students by eating together with them and taking part in quiz games while thinking and discussing about the nutritional balance of food, and deepening their understanding of the importance of eating. 47 elementary students from the five surrounding elementary schools around Hiyoshi Campus participated in the event, and there they spent a lively and cheerful time together.
This project is one of the many initiatives at Keio University's Hiyoshi Campus making contributions to society, and was implemented as part of an effort to facilitate deeper ties and exchanges with the local community.
Keio University aims to continue such efforts as part of its ongoing contributions to the local community, and going forward, the university plans to hold this event on a regular basis at a frequency of about three to four times in AY2023.
