On June 12, the Office for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion hosted a DEI symposium titled "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Challenges in Universities: Learning from Diverse Experiences; Reaching Common Goals." It was a hybrid-format event with an online component available in addition to the in-person gathering at the Mita Campus North Hall.
The symposium began with opening remarks from Kohei Itoh, the president of Keio University, and Akiyo Okuda who serves as both a Vice-President of Keio and as the director for the Office for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. After this, Professor Kyoko Ohara from Keio University's Faculty of Science and Technology moderated an enthusiastic discussion between women who work as scholars and researchers at Keio and various universities in countries that are involved with the APWiL (Asia Pacific Women in Leadership) Mentoring Program. This discussion highlighted what can be learned from women and their diverse experiences in these fields.
