On Tuesday, September 21, the event "Gathering for students who were admitted in the 2020 academic year—Learning about Keio University with the President" was held at the Hiyoshi Commemorative Hall for students who enrolled in the last academic year.
In the 2020 academic year, Keio University's campuses were temporarily closed during the Spring Semester from the perspective of preventing the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus disease), while the entrance ceremonies that would usually take place in April and September were both conducted online in September of 2020. Participation in this special event to once again welcome in person students admitted in the 2020 academic year was limited to the students themselves, and it was held over three sessions, in order to give the maximum consideration to the health and safety of Keio students as well as prevent the spread of infections.
At the ceremonies, following President Kohei Itoh's address and introduction of those onstage, Vice-President Kotaro Yamagishi (session 1), Vice-President Yoshimitsu Matsuura (session 2), and Vice-President Masayuki Amagai (session 3) each delivered speeches entitled "A Message to Keio Students." President Itoh entreated students as members of Keio University to strive to become "leaders of all society" blazing trails to shape the future, while remaining optimistic about a bright future for society and vigilant to worst case scenarios, and to join him in forging a new campus life.
