On October 22–24, the 50th AI3 & SOI Asia Joint Meeting was held at Keio’s Mita Campus.
This meeting celebrates the 50th gathering of the Asian Internet Interconnection Initiatives (AI3) and School on Internet Asia (SOI-Asia) Project since it was begun in 1996. As a founding partner, Keio University’s Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC), with its on-site satellite antenna, has played a central role since the inception of the project.
A truly diverse group of around 70 participants attended from 11 different countries including students, professors, staff members, engineers, vice-presidents, and presidents from various partner universities from across Asia. There were also representatives from organisations such as the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology; the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC); and UNESCO, and Keio was well-represented by Keio University President Akira Haseyama, two Vice-Presidents, and several students and professors involved in the SFC WIDE Project, a major initiative of SOI Asia.
The 3-day meeting was full of stimulating and productive discussions on the development of the Internet and higher education in the region.
