The Keio Short-Term Japanese Studies Program (KJSP) 2019 wrapped up on February 19 with the participants from Keio and other universities around the world giving their final presentations, receiving their certificates of completion, and enjoying a farewell reception with the lecturers who taught them in the program over the last 2 weeks.
The final presentations were made by groups of international and Keio students that were decided on the first day. Over the course of the 2 weeks, each group zeroed in on an aspect of Japan that interested them. Informed by the various lectures and field trips, they made video presentations on their topics. The presentations were full of humor and deep insights into Japanese society and culture, and elicited various questions and discussions. Each group also reflected on the challenges they faced working on their presentations. Prizes were then awarded for the best presentations, and the Dean of the International Center, Prof. Shinnosuke Obi, handed out the certificates of completion.
A farewell reception followed with Keio Vice-President Jiro Kokuryo also attending to chat with the students and to offer some parting words. There was lots of laughter and some tears as the 29 international students from 16 universities and 14 Keio students took pictures and shared contact details over a meal before they all headed off to their respective parts of the world.
