On Wednesday, March 20, Nobel Laureates Peter Diamond and Robert Engle came to Keio’s Mita Campus to speak to Keio staff and students. They first partook in a discussion event before a room full of Keio students, followed by the Yukichi Fukuzawa Memorial Lecture in Economics, titled "Economies in the 21st Century: on Societal Ageing and Climate Change."
Both venues were filled to capacity as Keio students, researchers, and professors came to catch a rare opportunity to hear these esteemed speakers up close.
Peter Diamond, Institute Professor Emeritus at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), received the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2010, and Robert Engle, who is Michael Armellino Professor of Finance at New York University Stern School of Business, received his Nobel Prize in Economics in 2003. They were in Japan to attend and give Keynote speeches at the WEAI (Western Economic Association International) 15th International Conference, which this year was held at Keio’s Mita Campus from March 21-24.
