On Friday, June 7, President Edward Montgomery of Western Michigan University in the United States, visited Mita campus.
At the lunch reception hosted by President Haseyama and held at the Banraisha, Vice-President Shinjiro Aoyama, Shinnosuke Obi, Dean of the International Center, and Faculty of Law professor Hiroshi Okayama were joined by many participants including students who studied abroad at Western Michigan University, with parties from both universities taking the chance to get to know each other better in a convivial atmosphere.
Later, a special seminar by President Montgomery, titled "Income Disparity in America and the Role of Politics and Government" was held at the South Building’s Distance Learning Room. Montgomery has served in important government positions over the course of several U.S. administrations, and participants at the seminar listened intently to his lecture on issues such as wealth disparities in his country.
Western Michigan and Keio Universities have a long history of exchange, with this visit by President Montgomery representing an opportunity to again deepen ties.
