Keio University has a feature in the G20 Osaka Summit Special edition of the Japan Times in which President Akira Haseyama discusses the creative solutions being developed at the university to tackle some of the challenges faced by global society.
President Haseyama believes that it is now time to reevaluate what globalization has meant for countries around the world, including the role that is to be played by universities, and this article introduces the ways in which Keio is fulfilling its responsibilities to the international community. This includes the university’s involvement in the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Population Aging Program and AI for Social Good, a collaborative project with the APRU, Google, and the United Nations ESCAP, as well as its hosting of the British Olympic (Team GB) and Paralympic (ParalympicsGB) teams in the run up to the Tokyo 2020 Games.
Additionally, the special edition has a feature introducing several of Keio’s flagship research initiatives relating to aging populations and agriculture, including the Population Aging Research Hub that was relocated by APRU to Keio in 2018, the university’s adoption of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, and its development of an AI-powered management system for agriculture products in Shizuoka Prefecture.
