The 17th Japan-Korea Millennium Forum, an event attended annually by the presidents of four of the leading private universities from Japan and Korea, was held at Waseda University on November 26 and 27.
From Keio, President Haseyama and Professor Shinnosuke Obi, the Vice-President for International Collaboration, participated in the forum, as well as Associate Professor Sachiko Yamao of the Graduate School of Business Administration and Professor Norichika Kanie of the Graduate School of Media and Governance, who both also presented at the Researcher Session.
At the welcome dinner on November 26, at which the South Korean Ambassador to Japan Gwan-pyo Nam gave a speech as guest of honor, President Haseyama had an informal dialogue with Yonsei University’s President Yong-Hak Kim—a member of the Global Advisory Council of Keio—toward further strengthening collaborations between the two universities in various fields. President Haseyama also presented President Kim with a commemorative gift.
The theme of this year’s forum was "Visions and Actions for Sustainable Society: Roles of Universities in Korea and Japan," with student and researcher sessions taking place in the afternoon after the presidential session on the morning of November 27. At the Student Session, students from the four universities gave presentations on the role that should be played by universities in sustainable societies, and fielded comments and advice from the four presidents. At the Researcher Sessions, presentations by researchers from the four universities and a lively exchange of opinions took place around the two themes of 1. The role to be played by education, and 2. Collaborations with local communities, as these relate to the SDGs.
