A ceremony to mark the completion of Keio University Hospital Building 1, which was constructed to commemorate the 100th anniversary since the establishment of the School of Medicine, was held on Saturday, April 21 at Shinanomachi Campus.
Over 330 people, including members of Keio University, representatives of the companies in charge of the design and construction of the building, and guests and other invited parties attended the ceremony. President Akira Haseyama, who was the first to make a speech, expressed hopes that the new building will develop into the nurturing ground for the future generations of Keio University medical services and medical care professionals. Next, Professor Masayuki Amagai, dean of the School of Medicine gave a speech, and chairperson of the Board of Councillors, Hiromichi Iwasa, gave a congratulatory address. Then, Vice-President Tsutomu Takeuchi gave an account of the New Hospital Project and reported on fund-raising activities. This was followed by a briefing on Building 1 from Keio University Hospital Director General Yuko Kitagawa, who also expressed his gratitude as occasioned by the successful completion of the building while stating his determination towards the further growth of Keio University Hospital.
Keio University subsequently presented letters of gratitude to the design and construction companies, who in turn presented the university with an inventory of commemorative gifts. A ribbon-cutting marked the end of the ceremony. After the ceremony, a preview tour of Building 1 was held. Another tour was also held in the afternoon, in which over 560 people participated.
The majority of the medical services that were provided at the former hospital building was moved into Building 1 and the new hospital opened on Monday, May 7.
