The draw for the 90th National High School Baseball Invitational Tournament (Spring Koshien), which will begin on Friday, March 23, took place on Friday, March 16, with Keio Senior High School Baseball Club drawn to face Shiga Prefectural Hikone Higashi High School in their first match. This match will take place on the 6th day of the tournament, Wednesday, March 28, with a 9:00 am start time.
The club has been holding a training camp in Kochi Prefecture since Friday, March 2, and paid a courtesy visit to the Kanagawa Prefectural Office and the Yokohama City Hall on Friday, March 9, where they received a message of encouragement from Kanagawa Prefectural Governor Yuji Kuroiwa. “It is nine years since Keio’s previous appearance at the Koshien and we thus hope to put our all into ensuring we are fully prepared,” said Keio High School Principal Mikio Furuta, while team captain Yusuke Shimoyama further enthused that: “We will demonstrate our trademark determination, and strive as one for victory.”
A ceremony at which the selection pennant was bestowed by team sponsor the Mainichi Newspaper was held at Keio’s Hiyoshi Campus on Wednesday, March 14. Captain Shimoyama, on taking receipt of the selection pennant from Akihiko Yamamoto, Yokohama bureau chief of the Mainchi Newspapers, pledged his full commitment to the Koshien alongside his teammates. The venue was greatly enlivened by a group rendition of “Wakaki-chi,” the Keio fight song, and the cheers of support of the Keio Cheer Group.
We would be delighted to get your support for the Keio Senior High School baseball team.
