On November 16, President Akira Haseyama and Provost Tojiro Aoyama visited the offices of the British Olympic Association (BOA) and the British Paralympic Association (BPA) in London to meet with BOA Chief Executive Officer Bill Sweeney and BPA Vice Chair Geoff Newton. In 2020, Keio University will host both Team GB and ParalympicsGB at Keio’s Hiyoshi Campus for their Tokyo 2020 pre-Games training camps.
Noting that the athletes and staff have already visited Keio for joint-training, cultural exchange, and the co-hosting of seminars, President Haseyama expressed his hope for further rewarding collaboration in the run-up to the 2020 Games.
Mr. Newton showed his commitment for increased engagement with Keio students, referring to the positive social impact that was made by the Paralympic athletes at the 2012 London Games. Mr. Sweeney commented that he has already formed a special connection with Keio, and thanked the university for all the support it has provided so far.
