The SFC Open Research Forum (ORF) 2017 was held over two days on Wednesday, November 22, and Thursday, November 23, on Labor Thanksgiving Day at Tokyo Midtown in Roppongi.
The purpose of this event is to share the advanced research activities conducted at Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC) to a wide audience, introduce new research ‘seeds,’ or ideas, to give back to the community, and promote industry-government-academia collaboration at SFC.
Displays, presentations, and talk sessions were held under the theme “Lab is the Message,” which conveyed the spirit of experimentation in the face of various challenges and opportunities.
At this year’s 22nd ORF, research projects brimming with originality were presented inside the venue on large wooden easels, filling the open space with the scent of wood.
In the Midtown East B1F booth area, 108 groups presenting almost 220 projects, a huge increase from last year, generated lively discussions and exchange of knowledge.
In the exhibition area, research presentations were given on diverse themes, including craftsmanship, architecture, and communication, bringing many visitors into the hall.
Around 40 talk sessions by sponsor companies and laboratories were held in Midtown Tower 4F and 5F International Design Liason Center with invited guests from the business world, politics, sports, and various other fields. The sessions triggered heated debates and discussions in-between the sessions. The "FAB 3D Contest 2017" award ceremony was also held, attended by visitors young and old.
