FinTEK International Conference co-hosted by the Faculty of Economics

On Tuesday, December 5, the Center for Finance, Technology and Economics at Keio (FinTEK) and the Faculty of Economics at Keio University jointly held an international conference entitled “Technology in Finance – Advantages and Challenges” at the North Hall, Mita Campus.
FinTEK’s Director Teruo Nakatsuma opened the conference. The first keynote speech was given by Mr. Motoyuki Yufu, Deputy Director-General, Planning and Coordination Bureau, Financial Services Agency (FSA) of Japan, who spoke on the policies of the Financial Services Agency (FSA) to promote fintech in Japan. The second keynote speech was given by Mr. Arnaud de Bresson, CEO of Paris Europlace, on the trend of fintech in Europe, especially in Paris. Later in the day, Dr. Naoyuki Yoshino, Dean of the Asian Development Bank Institute (Professor Emeritus of Keio University), reported the current state of fintech in Asia and the implications for Japanese finance. Two companies that support fintech education at the Faulty of Economics also made presentations on their approach to fintech and the trend of new fintech at home and overseas.
Student groups in the class “Theory and Practice of Fintech B”, newly established at the Faculty of Economics in 2017, also presented their progress in creating new fintech products.
Towards the end of the conference, Mr. Takao Ochi, State Minister for Financial Services joined us to give remarks. Dr. Yukihiro Ikeda, Dean of the Faculty of Economics concluded the conference.
There was a large audience comprising students who are keen to learn about fintech, business people interested in applying fintech in their business model, as well as scholars and researchers in this field. The conference became an excellent occasion to share the latest information on the state of fintech and its development in the world today and in future.
