Registration Open for the Free Online FutureLearn Course “An Introduction to Japanese Subcultures” (Second Delivery)

FutureLearn is an online education provider owned by The Open University, which has a proven track record in distance education in the UK. It was launched in 2013 in collaboration with 23 top universities, as well as the British Council, the British Museum, and the British Library.
Keio University’s well-received 2nd FutureLearn Course “An Introduction to Japanese Subcultures” will be delivered for a second time. It is scheduled to start on Monday, April 17 and will consist of 4 lectures (over 4 weeks).
Led by Prof. Hisayo Ogushi of the Faculty of Letters, the course will explore girls comics, boys comics, the Hatsune Miku vocaloid, cosplay, and J-pop idols, focusing on themes such as Love, Battle, Technology, and Fan culture, and all the different cultural creations that underpin Japanese subcultures.
The language of instruction is primarily English (with some Japanese), and all content will have English and Japanese subtitles available. Discussion between participants will be in English.
