On Tuesday, April 4, Keio University held its Postgraduate Entrance Ceremony at the Hiyoshi Commemorative Hall. This Spring Semester, Keio welcomed a total of 1,874 students in the 14 graduate schools (1,409 master’s, 273 doctoral, and 192 professional degree candidates).
At the ceremony, Vice-President Akira Haseyama gave the Incoming Class Report, which was followed by a welcome address by President Atsushi Seike. In both his Japanese and English speech, President Seike encouraged students to become specialists in their research field by equipping themselves with the ability to determine the truth without preconceived notions. Professor Takanobu Nakajima, committee member of the Graduate School of Business and Commerce, then gave a congratulatory speech in English on behalf of Keio’s faculty and staff, and the ceremony ended with the singing of the Alma Mater “The Juku-ka” by all the participants.
Before and after the ceremony, new students were seen taking photos and conversing with their families and friends at Hiyoshi Campus where the flowering cherry trees were in half bloom. After the ceremony, the students attended an orientation for their graduate school, as they embarked on their first day as Keio graduate students.
