Congratulations to Ruka Takegawa from Dr. Nobuaki Kono’s Lab on winning the Student Presentation Award at the 2025 Gram-Positive Bacteria Genome Function Conference!
The conference is a research forum in Japan for sharing findings on genome function, cellular structure, metabolism, and practical applications of Gram-positive bacteria, such as Bacillus subtilis and actinomycetes.
Ms. Takegawa examined the impact of rRNA gene loci and copy numbers on growth rates in Bacillus subtilis. The award recognized her innovative focus on designing genomic structures to understand and control bacterial growth characteristics, as well as how she bridged basic microbiology with potential applications.
