Keio University Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC) mourns the passing of Mr. Fumihiko Maki and expresses its deepest condolences.

Mr. Fumihiko Maki was responsible for the overall architectural plan and the design of the main buildings for SFC, which opened in 1990. His architectural work at SFC has been highly acclaimed as a beautifully designed campus that integrates architecture with nature, receiving awards such as the Kanagawa Architecture Concours Excellence Award in 1992 and the JIA 25 Years Award. Furthermore, Maki and Associates, where he served as an honorary advisor, was involved as the designer and supervisor of Keio University's first on-campus international student dormitory, H Village, which was completed in March 2023.

Given this background, SFC has received a portion of the valuable materials that narrate the journey of Mr. Fumihiko Maki in developing his works and ideas to reach his unparalleled state, as well as the international cultural exchanges that were his source of inspiration. To make these materials effectively available to students from around the world who will study architecture and urban design, and to those who aspire to conduct research for further development, SFC has named this initiative the "Fumihiko Maki Archive." In March 2022, the "Fumihiko Maki Room" was established on campus as its base.

SFC is proud to have been given the irreplaceable opportunity to have Mr. Fumihiko Maki lay the foundation of our campus and guide the research activities of future generations studying here, and we express our heartfelt gratitude.

We mourn the passing of Mr. Fumihiko Maki and pray for the peaceful repose of his soul. We also extend our deepest sympathies to his bereaved family.
