As part of the "Women's Body Support - Breeze Project," the "Karada Seminar: Menstruation and Femtech" was held on June 22, 2023.
This 9th Karada Seminar featured two mini-lectures and a dialogue session.
■ Dr. Tomoko Yoshihama (Project Assistant Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, School of Medicine / Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Federation of National Public Service Personnel Mutual Aid Associations Tachikawa Hospital)
In her mini-lecture, "Is This a Sickness? A Talk on Menstruation and Vaginal Discharge—What Women Should Know to Continue Thriving in Good Health," she discussed topics such as "challenges related to menstruation and tips for daily life," "abnormal vaginal discharge and sexually transmitted infections," and "the importance of having a regular gynecologist."
■ Professor Yasue Mitsukura (Professor, Department of System Design Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology / CTO, Dentsu ScienceJam Inc. / CTO, eLife Inc. / CEO, FeMup Inc.)
In her mini-lecture, "Understanding Women's Biorhythms with Simple Devices: A New Femtech," she introduced the latest devices as "a way for anyone to easily and inexpensively monitor their own hormonal state at any time," starting from the perspective that "women's irritability was due to hormones."
In the dialogue session in the second half, themes were explored based on a Q&A with the participants.
The speakers answered questions on a wide range of topics, from fertility treatments to hormone measurement methods.

Here is some feedback from the participants (*excerpts only):
○ I learned about the latest in femtech. It was also great to hear a casual talk about everyday concerns regarding menstruation and vaginal discharge.
○ The lecture in the first half was excellent, with very clear medical explanations and a wealth of information. The technology introduced in the second half lecture was groundbreaking, and I found the talk extremely interesting.
○ I was able to hear things that are difficult to ask about at the gynecologist's office. I could really feel the passion the speakers have for giving these kinds of lectures. As a woman, it was easy to listen to and a very meaningful lecture.
○ As a man, I gained a lot of very useful knowledge for supporting my partner. Above all, it made me seriously question the current situation where women are left to bear the various difficulties associated with menstruation all by themselves.
