As part of the "Women's Body Support - Breeze Project" initiative, the Body Seminar "Is 'Losing Weight' Wonderful?" was held on November 29, 2022.
This 7th Body Seminar featured two mini-lectures and a dialogue.
■ Dr. Mikako Inokuchi (Professor, Health Center, Keio University)
In her mini-lecture, "A Talk About the Body," she discussed topics such as "health problems caused by being underweight," "underweight women and the risk of diabetes," and "the effects of an underweight maternal environment on the fetus."
■ Dr. Nariko Katayama (Assistant Professor, Department of Neuropsychiatry, School of Medicine, Keio University)
In her mini-lecture, "A Talk About the Mind," she discussed topics such as "cognitive characteristics of eating disorders," "the difficulty of treating eating disorders," and "effective eating habits for eating disorders."
In the dialogue session during the second half, the theme was explored through a Q&A session with the participants.
Starting with the question, "What department should I consult for an eating disorder or extreme malnutrition?" the discussion expanded to topics such as "how family and friends should respond when the person is unwilling to seek medical attention."
An archived video of this seminar is available. Please feel free to watch it.

Here are some comments from the participants:
○ I was able to gain new knowledge about the physical phenomena that occur from not eating.
○ The talk was unique to instructors who regularly interact with students and children, and I was also able to hear about how to interact with people with eating disorders. The time flew by. As someone from the parent generation, I hope that many young students will watch the archive.
○ What happens to brain function and the body as a result of excessive weight loss—due to my work, I tend to focus on the mental aspects, but this was a renewed lesson on the importance of understanding illness from a physical perspective.
