On Thursday, May 11, at 2:00 p.m., a ceremony was held in the hall of Yonsei University's Samsung Library to confer an honorary doctoral degree from Yonsei University upon Keio University President Itoh.
In his congratulatory address, Yonsei University President Suh Seoung Hwan, on behalf of his university, referenced President Itoh's critical role in expanding the boundaries of knowledge and his contributions towards academic conferences in his specialized field through his pioneering work on quantum computing research in Japan. He also lauded President Itoh's outstanding research and educational contributions, his leadership as president of Keio University and his influence on society.
Following the congratulatory address, Senior Vice President for Research Affairs and Dean of Graduate School, Park Seung Han, then read a citation where he noted President Itoh's contributions to the advancement of science and technology, as well as university education through leading academic research. He also credited President Itoh for his proactive efforts in building positive relationships for personnel exchanges and academic development, thereby contributing to the furthering of research and education at both universities and the nurturing of future global talents.
After receiving the honorary doctoral degree, President Itoh gave a speech expressing his gratitude, where he stated that he was very honored to receive the honorary doctoral degree from Yonsei University, an exemplary university of Korea. He expressed his commitment to make further efforts for academic exchange and cooperation between the two universities in the future. In addition to Yonsei University staff, students from Keio University studying abroad at Yonsei University under the exchange student program, as well as representatives from the Korean branch of the Mita-kai (Alumni Association) and the Seoul Mita-kai were invited to the ceremony.
