On Wednesday, May 10, 2023, Martha Argerich performed a piano concert at Mita Campus's West School Building Hall for Keio elementary, middle, and high school students, university students, board members, faculty, and staff members.
The concert was held at Keio University at the request of the Argerich Arts Foundation and Characters Culture Promotion Organization. The Argerich Arts Foundation is an organization located in Oita Prefecture, the birthplace of Keio's founder, Yukichi Fukuzawa. It hosted its 23rd MUSIC FESTIVAL Argerich's Meeting Point in Beppu this year. The Characters Culture Promotion Organization focuses on activities that support national language activities.
On the day of the concert, Martha Argerich started her performance with J.S. Bach's English Suite No. 3 in G Minor, BWV 808: 5. Gavotte I-II (Musette) and M. Ravel's Jeux d'eau. After this, she was joined by Kyoko Ito, the vice chairperson of the Argerich Arts Foundation, to play M. Ravel's piano duet, Ma mère l'Oye.
The concert was an overwhelming success with the hall erupting in applause at the end of the performance from approximately 850 audience members.
