2022/12/15
The year 2022 marks the 150th anniversary of the publication of "Gakumon no susume (An Encouragement of Learning)" in 1872 (Meiji 5). To commemorate this, Keio University has launched the "GAKUMON NO SUSUME" project, which includes releasing video interviews with alumni and holding various other events.
Amid the turmoil of rapid Westernization, Yukichi Fukuzawa promoted the importance of learning as a chance for every individual to expand their potential. With the aim of encouraging the current generation to read "Gakumon no susume (An Encouragement of Learning)," which explains the attitude one should have in life, book fairs are being held at university co-op bookstores on each campus of Keio University, as well as at bookstores nationwide.
We encourage you to pick up and read "Gakumon no susume (An Encouragement of Learning)" during the New Year holidays. In addition to "Gakumon no susume (An Encouragement of Learning)," the book fairs will also feature other major works by Yukichi Fukuzawa.
