Looking back on my university life, I feel these four years have been a time of trial and error, shaping my interests and future vision within a highly flexible environment. My decision to pursue this path was sparked by observing a trial during high school. I was deeply fascinated by the logical arguments exchanged between the defense and the prosecution in the courtroom, which led me to apply to the Faculty of Law with the desire to acquire the ability to think about society through the lens of the law.
After enrolling, while carefully learning the foundations of law, I also challenged myself with experiences to expand my potential. For about a year and a half starting from my third year, I participated in a long-term internship at a venture capital firm. I gained a wide range of experience, from planning and managing events that connect entrepreneurs and investors to corporate analysis for investment decisions, sales, and back-office operations.
Working in an environment where I was given significant discretion despite being a student greatly fostered my sense of responsibility for results and my awareness of creating value within society.
From my third year, I joined Professor Michiyo Maeda's seminar on International Comparative Law. In the first year, I conducted comparative research on the legal systems of various countries under the theme of the "right to be forgotten." Through this contemporary issue of protecting individual rights in an internet-based society, I was able to cultivate a perspective for thinking about the relationship between law and society from multiple angles. Now in my second year in the seminar, I am dealing with Antimonopoly Law, researching the balance between freedom of contract and the protection of the vulnerable by comparing franchise agreements in Japan and the United States.
Additionally, I have continued my involvement in fencing, which I have done since high school, as a student coach at the university, balancing it with my studies and internship. I believe I was able to keep challenging myself in different fields precisely because of the learning environment in the Faculty of Law, which respects individual choices. The Faculty of Law is a place where you can deepen your learning and connect it to your future based on your own initiative.
