Shonan Fujisawa Junior and Senior High School ──A Senior High School "Health" Class Taught by Doctors──

At Shonan Fujisawa Junior and Senior High School, the weekly "Health" class for 5th-year students (11th grade) is taught by doctors from the Keio University Health Center. This is one of the highlight classes at Shonan Fujisawa Junior and Senior High School, where "teachers who are doctors" with specialized training in medical sciences speak realistically and essentially based on their experiences as physicians.

The year-long curriculum follows the theme of "a 100-year life starting from a fertilized egg," where 17-year-old students reflect on their lives so far and imagine themselves up to the age of 100 while considering "health" at each life stage. In particular, when these "doctors as teachers" speak realistically about potential future illnesses, or when they speak with high expertise about sometimes delicate topics regarding sexuality, it ignites the students' motivation to learn about health. Many students realize that the lesson content is a reality surprisingly close to them, and they listen to the lectures and engage with assignments very enthusiastically.

The "doctors as teachers" in charge aim to foster the "ability to think for oneself and prevent" health disorders and lifestyle-related diseases that could happen to the students now or in the future. Furthermore, they are conscious of realizing "health education, relationship education, and life/economic education" centered on "Health" as a subject, and they strive to make the classes cover both what they want to teach as doctors and what the students want to learn. It is no exaggeration to say that this is a luxurious class that could only be realized because it is one of Keio University's affiliated schools, which is unrelated to so-called university entrance exam coaching, and specifically because it is Shonan Fujisawa Junior and Senior High School, which requires students to study all subjects equally.
