Yochisha ──The Health Room of Keio Yochisha Elementary School──

The Health Room of Keio Yochisha Elementary School is a hub that supports the daily safety and growth of its students. In the 2025 academic year, the number of visitors reached approximately 5,280 annually, with a daily average of about 29.7, making it the most visited health room among the integrated schools. There are more visits for surgery than for internal medicine (1,165 internal medicine cases, 4,115 surgery cases), reflecting the daily lives of active and energetic children. The room opens at 8:00 a.m., and the day begins with providing first aid for injuries sustained during the commute to school and responding to those feeling unwell.

At Yochisha, we place great importance on listening carefully to students, especially those in the lower grades who may not be able to articulate their symptoms well. Rather than simply providing treatment, we encourage basic self-care, such as "washing the wound yourself first," to foster the ability to protect one's own body independently. By the upper grades, students can be seen staying close to and helping injured younger students, naturally creating a culture of mutual support across grade levels.

Furthermore, in terms of health management, we provide opportunities for students to reflect on their own growth and physical condition through simultaneous Health Checkups, including physical measurements conducted in the second and third terms. Regarding food allergy management in school lunches, we collaborate with the cafeteria to ensure a safe eating environment. Additionally, we conduct school environmental hygiene inspections of classrooms (twice a year) and hygiene surveys of the cafeteria (once a year) to maintain and improve the hygiene standards of the entire school.

In daily operations, in addition to attending to visiting students, we carefully check absence statuses, monitor infectious disease outbreaks, replenish supplies, and maintain the indoor environment. We also emphasize prompt information sharing with parents and teachers, appropriately communicating the status of injuries, the necessity of medical consultations, and decisions regarding leaving school early. Furthermore, we strive to maintain accurate records by reviewing the visitor logs filled out by the students themselves. Additionally, safety management, such as inspecting the AED within the Health Room, is essential.

The Health Room at Yochisha provides daily support as "another classroom" where students can feel secure in their school life.
