Congratulations to Kazuki Hioki, our Ph.D. student, for winning the Top Presentation Award at the 49th JSMPES Conference!
The conference focused on community sports in a changing society, addressing regional challenges—such as population decline and the need for sustainable development—in relation to sports and sports management.
Hioki’s paper, co-authored with his advisor Dr. Tokairin, won the award for its unique contributions to the field. By analyzing in-depth interviews with 46 organizers of recreational events in Fujisawa City, the study shed light on community sports days, a topic understudied in research. It also highlighted the vital role of the festive element, an aspect gradually disappearing from these events.
Moving forward, he expresses his enthusiasm to use the findings to revitalize community sports days as resident-driven events that foster local ties, while collaborating with fellow members of the Tokairin Lab’s Spo-Machi Project.
