Recent Progress of the graded-index polymer optical fiber (GI POF) is reviewed. The low-loss perfluorinated (PF) polymer based GI-POF experimentally achieved gigabit transmission for more than 200m in the range of visible to near infrared region. In addition, improvement of the thermal and long-term stability of the bandwodth of the GI POF with using a new dopant material is described.

マルチメディアにおける広帯域屈折率分布型ポリマー光ファイバーの可能性を具体的に述べた。

ＧＩ－ＰＯＦを提案した。ＧＩ型ＰＯＦは材料がポリマーであるために大口径化が可能であることから、接続・分岐が容易であり、かつＧＩ型にすることにより広帯域が実現可能となる。また、フッ素化合物を用いることにより、1.3ミクロン帯でも良好な透明性が得られたのでその結果についても解説した。

Under such circumstances, plastic optical fiber (POF) became remarkable as the transmission medium of the high-speed information communication network system. The POF can be prepared with a large core diameter because of ihgh-flexibility, which would enable easy connection and branching in the network system. Moreover, realization of high-bandwodth can be achieved by making a graded-index type. In this paper, we report on the development of POF and dreams of POF.

Moreover, realization of high bandwodth can be achieved by making a graded-index type. In this thesis, we report on the recent study on high-speed POF.

光通信関連学会の中での最大の学会といわれるOFCにおいて、無機ガラス系光ファイバーによる長距離光ネットワークに対して、POFによる短距離高速光リンクを提案し、更にガラス光ファイバーリンクとの融合について提案した。

光情報分野で利用可能な様々なポリマー素子の解説。

マルチメディア時代を担うと思われる、光信号の伝送、及びその表示機能として、高速伝送ポリマー光ファイバー、さらに光散乱導光体による高輝度LCDバックライトについて報告した。

全フッ素化材料を用いることにより、近赤外領域で50dB/kmまで低伝送損失化された新規GI型POFの特性について報告し、このGI型POFを用いた新たな光リンクシステムを提案した。

ポリマー光ファイバーとポリマー光増幅器の最新特性について報告した。

21世紀マルチメディア情報化社会を支えるためのポリマー材料の可能性について探る。
