On Monday, October 5, 2026, a public lecture titled "Living a Life Without Correct Answers: The Challenge of a Man Who Became a Pro Tennis Player at 25 After Graduating from Kaisei and UTokyo" was held at the Hiyoshi Campus, featuring professional tennis player Seiichiro Ichikawa as the guest speaker.

Mr. Ichikawa progressed from Kaisei Junior & Senior High School to the University of Tokyo and pursued a path in contemporary music before diving into the world of tennis as a complete beginner at age 25. He is currently continuing his challenge as a professional tennis player on the world stage.

In the lecture, he spoke about the conflicts he faced at each turning point in his life and what he relied on to make his decisions, drawing from his own experiences.

His words, such as "The core of a decision is whether your heart trembles" and "Don't wait for someone to push you; take the first step yourself," carried a strong sense of conviction, and the participants listened intently.

Furthermore, Mr. Ichikawa spoke not only about results and success but also stated, "I am happy in the 'daily moments' when I challenge myself with my life on the line." He conveyed the importance of continuing to take on challenges while finding methods that suit oneself, without being bound by conventional methodologies.

During the Q&A session following the lecture, many questions were raised regarding career choices, decision-making methods, and maintaining motivation, leading to a lively dialogue that exceeded the scheduled time.

Feedback from participants included:

"He embodies the fact that you can take on challenges at any age, which gave me courage."

"I was impressed by the idea of finding happiness in the process of the challenge itself, rather than the results."

"It was an opportunity to rethink my own life and my child's future path."

"I was overwhelmed by his passion and ability to take action."

These were some of the comments received.

This lecture served as a valuable opportunity for a wide range of generations—including not only students but also faculty, staff, and general participants—to rethink what it means to live a life true to oneself and that age is irrelevant when it comes to taking on challenges.

The Office for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion will continue to provide opportunities to encounter diverse ways of living and values, creating catalysts for each individual to think about their own unique life and career.
