On Thursday, January 16, the 2024 Shinzo Koizumi Memorial Lecture, titled "Geopolitical Tensions and Asia," was held at the North Hall on Mita Campus, featuring a presentation by Fukunari Kimura, Professor Emeritus of Keio University.

In the lecture, he explained that while the current US-China conflict is affecting global supply chains (GSCs), direct regulations are limited, and the global economy remains active. He also noted that the US-China tariff war and high-tech export controls have had a positive impact on some third countries, with ASEAN nations in particular attracting investment while maintaining good economic relations with both the US and China. He concluded by stating that the ability of third countries to maintain their GSCs in the face of future policy changes will be crucial, and that it is necessary for free-trade-oriented nations to cooperate to support trade rules. All attendees listened intently to Professor Emeritus Kimura's lecture, which was followed by a lively Q&A session.
