An announcement from the free online course platform FutureLearn.

The online course "Travelling Books: History in Europe and Japan," which explores the history of cultural exchange between Japan and Europe through books, is now available to study in Japanese starting March 27.

■ Overview

Explore the surprising history of books that traveled between Europe and Japan!

Books are cultural assets that can be easily transported and translated. As such, they have played a crucial role in fostering relationships between countries for hundreds of years.

In this three-week course offered by Keio University and the British Library, you will learn about the history of how books from Europe and Japan have promoted cultural exchange, how this continues into the digital age, and the importance of this exchange.

This course is a joint production by Keio University and the British Library, both renowned in their home countries and abroad.

Through their rich resources and long-standing friendly relationship, you will deepen your understanding of European and Japanese culture and how books have connected the two.
