Keio University Infection Response Center for COVID-19

The Japanese government's Novel Coronavirus Response Headquarters has announced that as of May 8, barring exceptional circumstances, the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) will be changed to a "Class 5 Infectious Disease" under the Act on the Prevention of Infectious Diseases.

Accordingly, Keio University will be implementingthe following changes to its COVID-19 policy from March 13except for medical-related departments and institutions. On May 7, it will end other COVID-19-related practices and infection prevention measures.

Once these general policies are discontinued, it will become necessary for every individual to exercise their best judgment to prevent infections from spreading. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

◆ COVID-19 Infection Prevention Measures

All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infections through three basic principles: social distancing, masks, and hand washing.

1) Do not come to campus if you feel unwell, have a fever, or display other symptoms associated with COVID-19.

2) Wearing a mask will be left to personal discretion.† Masks are effective during rush hour commutes, close-proximity conversations, and other situations where airborne particles and droplets are in high concentrations.

†Should you be asked to wear a mask for special circumstances at a university function, we request your full cooperation.

◆ What to do if you test positive for COVID-19

Should you test positive for COVID-19, inform those you interacted with in close proximity during meals or long conversation in the two days prior to showing symptoms, or anyone else who you strongly suspect to be a close contact.

◆ Preventing infections from spreading through organized activities of student clubs, research groups, laboratories, etc.

If multiple members of a student organization or club test positive for COVID-19 within the same timeframe, there is a possibility that a cluster infection took place. Should this occur, the person in charge of the organization should contact and consult with the Keio University Health Center.
