The Yokohama Keio Challenger International Tennis Tournament 2022 was held at the Mamushidani Tennis Courts on Hiyoshi Campus from Sunday, October 30 through Sunday, November 13.
The Men's Tournament, held from Sunday, October 30 to Sunday, November 6, was a Challenger Tour event organized by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), a governing body for men's professional tennis tournaments. The tournament was established to hone the skills of up-and-coming Japanese players and young athletes, and provide the opportunity for more players to aspire to compete on an international level. This was the first time the tournament was held in three years, and the 11th tournament since it was first held in 2007.
Likewise, the Yokohama Keio Challenger Women’s International Tournament was held from Monday, November 7 to Sunday, November 13. This competition was an official International Tennis Federation (ITF) Women's World Tennis Tour tournament held for the 5th time this year.
Both the men's and women's competitions attracted athletes from Japan and abroad who aspire to become professional tennis players. Keio had multiple winners from its Tennis Team, with Naho Sato (4th year, Faculty of Environment and Information Studies) taking first in women's doubles, and Tomoya Fujiwara (3rd year, Faculty of Environment and Information Studies) placing second in men's doubles.
A junior tennis school for kids, adult tennis program, and wheelchair tennis event were also held during the tournament. The competition proved to be a valuable learning experience for students on the Keio Tennis Team, who were tasked with running the international tournament.
