Aiming to Become a “Generalist” with a Broad Range of Knowledge
In the Faculty of Law, students may study a wide range of academic fields—including the humanities, natural sciences, and foreign languages—through interdepartmental subjects shared by the Department of Law and the Department of Political Science. The aim is to cultivate individuals who are not only specialists with advanced expertise in law and politics, but also generalists with broad intellectual foundations.
While many of these interdepartmental subjects are offered primarily in the first and second years, students may continue to take them through their fourth year. By studying a foreign language throughout all four years of university, students can acquire a very high level of language proficiency.
In the third and fourth years, students may also study and conduct research in the humanities and natural sciences through seminar-style subjects. Students who have pursued a field other than law or political science as a second area of specialization may receive certification for a sub-major.
