I am conducting research on the collaboration between school librarians and teachers in lessons that make use of the school library. As our information society advances and the development of information literacy skills becomes a key challenge, the role of school librarians as information specialists within schools is growing increasingly important. In my master's thesis, I aim to clarify the specific forms this collaboration takes and its significance through analysis of classroom case studies.
Day to day, I develop my research primarily through study groups while broadening my interests through seminars and events within the department. Journal club sessions bring together all faculty in the department for lively discussion with students at every stage of their studies. The department also includes working professionals with practical experience in information resource management. Interacting with people from such diverse career backgrounds is a real source of inspiration, both for my research and for thinking about my own future career. Beyond research guidance, the faculty are genuinely approachable about all kinds of things, from career paths to everyday concerns, and that warmth makes the whole environment feel reassuring.
The Department of Library and Information Science is home to high-caliber research across a wide range of fields, and I count myself lucky to be part of such a rich environment—both in terms of resources and the people I get to work with. If you're considering graduate school, I think you'd find it a truly rewarding place to be.
