Since its founding in 1951, the Graduate School of Letters at Keio University has made significant contributions to research across the humanities, carrying on the tradition of renowned scholars such as Junzaburo Nishiwaki and Toshihiko Izutsu.

Spanning philosophy, history, literature, and library and information science, the Graduate School of Letters conducts internationally oriented research at the highest academic standards. The Graduate School contributes to the development of Japanese culture by producing researchers who combine broad intellectual foundations with deep disciplinary expertise, and have played a significant role as a training ground for highly skilled professionals in fields such as arts management, information resources management, and Japanese language education.
