Symposium Outline:
This symposium will feature a discussion centered on three emerging researchers of Deleuze and Deleuze-Guattari (*). The topic is the problem of law, which Gilles Deleuze (1925–1995), one of the leading figures in contemporary French philosophy after structuralism, discussed in various works throughout his career. Specifically, the discussion is expected to focus on at least the following three points: (1) What is the substance of the "ethics" that Deleuze posits as opposing "law" and "morality"? (2) What is the relationship between "desire" and "society," and between "desire" and "law," as presented by Deleuze-Guattari? (3) What is the concept of jurisprudence, the core of Deleuze's philosophy of law, and what positive effects can it have on human life? After presentations by the presenter and designated discussants, followed by a mutual discussion, the commentators will join the debate. A Q&A session for online participants will also be held. We hope this will foster a wide-ranging and open discussion, not only for specialists in Deleuze and Deleuze-Guattari studies but for a broad audience from various fields.
*Following common practice, the name "Deleuze-Guattari" is used as the author name for the collaborative works written by Deleuze and the psychoanalyst Félix Guattari (1930–1992).
