Beethoven led the "modern" era, opening up new dimensions for both thought and musical expression by introducing the new approach of "thinking through sound." Under him, "spirit" took form as sound. This is a ten-part lecture series in which a pianist and a philosopher delve into his world of works. The second installment will focus on the emotion of "sorrow."
Works scheduled to be featured:
• Beethoven: Piano Sonata No. 8 "Pathétique," Op. 13
• Brahms: 8 Piano Pieces, Op. 76
• Schubert: Piano Sonata No. 19, D. 958
(The full pieces will not be performed.)
