For the Development of Research in Business and Commerce
The Society of Business and Commerce is an affiliated institution of the Faculty of Business and Commerce, primarily composed of full-time faculty members specializing in the fields of the Faculty of Business and Commerce (Management, Accounting, Commerce, and Economics/Industry). It was established in April 1961 with the aim of encouraging and promoting research on industry and economy in a broad sense, including business and commerce, contributing to the enlightenment of its members and the students of the Keio University Faculty of Business and Commerce and Graduate School of Business and Commerce, and further contributing to the development of academic, industrial, and socio-cultural circles both domestically and internationally.
To achieve these goals, the Society of Business and Commerce carries out various activities. First, to promote the research of its members, it publishes periodicals such as "Mita Business Review" and the "Keio Business Review." It also provides subsidies for research monographs, publications, and the holding of symposia and academic conferences, as well as organizing research report meetings.
For graduate students of the Graduate School of Business and Commerce, the society encourages the publication of research results in "Mita Business Review" and the "Keio Business Review," while providing support for research and presentations at academic conferences. For undergraduate students, it provides subsidies for activities such as seminars (Zemi) and exercise classes, as well as for inviting guest speakers. Furthermore, it invites submissions for annual prize essays, honors outstanding papers that pass a rigorous screening process, and publishes them in the "Mita Business Review: Student Essay Collection."
A major pillar of support for these activities is the student fees collected along with tuition. In this sense, we believe that the results of research conducted with the support of the Society of Business and Commerce should be returned to the students in some form. It is our sincere hope that through the activities of the Society of Business and Commerce, the research of members and students will be promoted, leading to the further revitalization of the Faculty of Business and Commerce and the Graduate School of Business and Commerce.
