Semiconductors play an extremely significant role in the proliferation of technologies currently attracting attention, such as IoT, AI, and 5G. The Faculty of Science and Technology has long focused on research and education in the field of semiconductor large-scale integration (LSI) design. In particular, it has disseminated numerous research findings and produced many talented individuals in technologies crucial to fields where Japan excels, such as sensing, embedded devices, and edge computing. These technologies include ultra-low power operation, miniaturization, and real-time processing. This symposium introduced trends in the LSI design field and initiatives in research and education. It also featured a discussion on the role expected of academia and the nature of industry-academia collaboration to enhance the future competitiveness of this field.
